Catherine Higgins (b 1838) m Thomas Carrick (b 1838) Ann Higgins (b 1836) m Thomas Kelly (b 1831) m 1854 Macclesfield (see Kellys’ of Tullindaly Road). From the records I have I believe their father’s name was Michael. Catherine Carrick and her husband Thomas Carrick immigrated to Australia in 1880 after living in Macclesfield and Manchester since 1861 (this is the first census date I could find them in the UK) to 1880.   They arrived in Sydney in 1880 and on the immigration papers the relations in the colony were noted as her sister Ann Kelly, in Balmain. Hogarty, O'Neil I am looking for information on the Hogarty family of the parish of Tuam-Dunmore.John Hogarty married Mary O'Neil Mar 17,1836. Their daughter, Mary Hogarty ,b. Aug 19,1838, married Patrick Naughton Feb 16,1860. Any info greatly appreciated. Regards, Mary Allard

Holloran Patrick Holloran (Holloran as on the death cert) was born in Tuam January 1874, I am told that he was educated by the christian brothers, His family owned land around the Tuam area. Patrick married Margaret O'Shaughnessy who was also from C. Galway. The marriage was not approved of by Patrick's Family.

They moved to Liverpool, England. Patrick worked for Liverpool corporation, They had five children Annie, John, Nelle, Thomas & Margaret. Patrick died 27th April 1956 in Liverpool. I have no further information on either. Joe Keeley.

Hughes Descendants of Walter Hughes - Born Tuam - 1841

Walter Hughes (my great grandfather) was born in Tuam, Galway circa 1841, and died 19th June 1902 in Red Jacket, Victoria, Australia. He married Julia Ronan on 27th July 1868 at Red Jacket. Her parents were Denis & Bridget Ronan (nee Sullivan). Julia was born circa 1845 in Rossmore, Galway and died 7th May 1902 in Red Jacket, Victoria.

They moved from town to town, Walter worked as a gold miner and they followed the strikes. Although most of their time was spent in the Walhalla district, and further up into the mountains. Red Jacket, Dry Creek, Jericho, Woods Point, were just some of the places they lived. 

They had a rather large family although pretty normal for the time I guess. Children of Walter & Julia Hughes are:

Denis Hughes b. 1869 d. 25th June 1874, Dry Creek.
Cause of death: Hydrocephalus - ailing from birth.

Honoria Hughes b. 1873 Jericho d. circa 1850 Melbourne Victoria
Walter Hughes b. 15th December, 1874, Red Jacket, d. 1917 Wangaratta Victoria (my grandfather)

Mary Ann Hughes b. 1878, d. 9th February, 1901, Bairnsdale Victoria.
Cause of death Enteric fever.
John Martin Hughes b. 1882 d. circa 1854 Melbourne Victoria
William Hughes b. 3rd August, 1884

I would dearly love to find out anything about my Great Grandfather, of his family he left in Ireland, and how he came to arrive in Australia. I am in Traralgon, Victoria, Australia, which isn't very far from where my ancestors settled when they came out here.  Virginia Dye
