His first occupation was as a shoemaker like his father Bryan/Bernard but at the age of 18 he decided to enlist with the Army.

This took him all over the world - India, South Africa - he may even have been at Rourke's Drift.

It wasn't until he left the Army and returned to his native town that he met and married a local girl, Mary Ward of Tirboy Road, Tuam,

They married in the local Roman Catholic Cathedral and went on to have 10 children. Sadly not all survived to adulthood.

What happened to his six surviving children?

Margaret Brennan married John Dillon and moved to Leigh, Lancashire which is where she died.

Mary Brennan married John Murray from Dunmore. At first they set up home and business in Dunmore but eventually moved to Creagh, Ballinasloe - only a stone's throw from her younger sister Kate. Mary died in Creagh, Ballinasloe, County Galway.

Kate Brennan (christened Catherine) married John Lett and moved to Ballinasloe near Tuam where she lived out her days.

Patrick Joseph Brennan "emigrated" to St. Helens Lancashire and married Beatrice Anne Ollerhead from Prescot, Lancashire. He worked as a coalminer and died in 1957 in Sutton, St. Helens, Lancashire.

Bernard Simon Brennan volunteered to join the army like his father before him but was killed in action in Jerusalem.

John Brennan also "emigrated" to St Helens, Lancashire.
